Prickles the Paintbrush

there once lived a paintbrush. well, when i say 'lived', this word word i use is different from what you may assume. you may think of 'living' as in which a person is physically breathing, their heart is pumping, and they have the ability to move to and fro. which in this case, you would certainly be correct. but when i say that this certain paintbrush is alive, i mean in no way that it has lungs or blood in which their heart pumps, for they have none at all. there is no way possible us humans would consider this brush to be living. and why did i say it was alive? well, you'll have to see for yourself.

Prickles got his first dunk. His head went under and into the clear liquid. He swayed to and fro underneath the water as the human swirled him around. She, the human, grabbed hold of Prickles and raised his head out of the liquid. She tapped his aluminum head on the rim of her glass, which felt to Prickles, more like slamming his head against the hard glass. His head dunked into a thick, blue liquid, which stuck to his once white hair. The human carefully aimed his head at a crisp piece of paper, and slid his head across it, causing his paint-filled hair to leave a blue line across the sheet. The human splotched and dotted, dunked and swirled Prickles so much that he thought his hair may fall out. Yet the human kept going. She trusted Prickle's worth. When the human was finished, she set his head into the cup of tinted water. She stared at her work and nodded. She was pleased. Prickles smiled, though he had no mouth to smile with. He felt proud to make her happy. He knew he was her favorite paintbrush, and she was his absolute favorite human. He liked making her happy. Sometimes she used him and looked at her splotches and lines and growled. Then she would throw her art away. Prickles hated doing that. He didn't like making her sad or angry. But seeing the smile on her face made him very happy indeed. He knew that sometimes the paintings didn't work out quite right, but when they did, it was worth it.
